The Ngaio School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) aims to build strong links between home and school. It holds regular meetings, helps coordinate parent involvement, organises school events, and fundraises for the school community.

The PTA directly supports your children’s experience at Ngaio. Their learning and environment are enhanced by the library books, sports equipment, improved facilities and play areas funded as well as the functions and milestone events organised by the PTA.

Many opportunities exist for parents to help. Some assist without attending PTA meetings. Other members like to be hands on as well as regularly attending meetings. Another option is to contribute at meetings without any pressure to take on a defined job. Having a quorum is important. Parents’ opinions on policies and topics relevant to the school are valued. Feedback is welcomed.

The PTA consists of an executive committee who are elected annually, and who host general committee meetings. Please contact them on pta@ngaio.school.nz or talk to people on the committee or the teacher’s representative directly:

The PTA’s Role

The role of the PTA is to support the Ngaio School Board of Trustees and the principal by being involved in the school. Volunteers are depended on to get things done and have a variety of roles:

  • Fundraising activities (year-round t-shirt and hat sales, hoodies, Scholastic book club, Honeywraps, Inspire Photography family photo days, annual Entertainment Book sales)
  • Organising social events (class coffee mornings for new parents, discos, sausage sizzles and the year 6 leavers’ function)
  • Funding the extras needed for the school which are not provided for by the Ministry of Education (drinking fountains, outdoor play areas, landscaping and seating, library books, sports equipment and uniforms and the refurbishment of the pool sheds).

PTA Meetings

PTA meetings focus on how to improve the school for our children and build the school community. Attendees include the executive committee, the principal, a teacher representative, a Board representative and any parents and caregivers who choose to attend.

There is no expectation that attending meetings will require parents to take on jobs. Having a cross-section of our community is valued and while it provides a forum to discuss change it may not be the vehicle for it and ideas may be referred to the Board or principal.

The PTA executive is guided by a constitution.

Meetings are usually held on a Thursday night at 7.00pm in the staffroom (enter through doors by staff carpark). If it is your first time attending you can check the date and time in the school newsletter or by emailing the PTA.

Our future meetings are Thursday 1st July and Thursday 24th October.

You can read the PTA meeting and AGM minutes here.
