Ngaio School has a number of netball teams each year which are open to any child in years 3-6.
Season details
- Years 5 and 6 – season starts on 6 May and will finish on 19 August
- Years 3 and 4 – season starts on 20 May and will finish on 19 August
- There are no games Queens Birthday weekend, or the middle weekend and last weekend of term 2 holidays.
When do games take place?
- Years 3 and 4 – Saturday afternoons
- Years 5 and 6 – Saturday mornings
Venue for games
- Newlands College or Newlands Intermediate.
Day/times/venue of practices
- These are held at Ngaio School and the timing varies according to availability of coaches and team members.
Uniform/equipment
- Years 5 and 6 wear Ngaio Sports Uniform and these can be purchased at NZ Uniforms in Thorndon Quay or online at ngaioschool.nzuniforms.com
- Year 3 and 4 uniforms are not compulsory but encouraged.

Year 1 and 2
ANZ futureFERNS programme run by NSN.
Most likely in Term 3 (but TBC) and most likely at Wellington Girls College Gym (indoors) (Dates and times TBC).
Players are registered as individuals and attend a 1 hour’s session. This is split into 30 minutes of skills developing the fundamental skills of netball. Players are put into teams of 4 and play a 4v4 game across a third of the court, shooting into hula hoops.
No uniform is required and no practices are held.
Year 3 and 4
ANZ futureFERNS programme run by NSN.
Run over terms 2 and 3 at Newlands College (outdoors) Saturday afternoons.
Players are registered as Ngaio School teams of 5-8 players (games are 5 a side).
They play at the same time each week – with the first part of the session focusing on skill development. Then they play 5v5 games on two thirds of the court, shooting into 2.60m goals with size four balls.
No uniform required although we encourage use of the Ngaio sports uniform top to help them feel like a team.
Practices are not required but individual coaches may hold practices.
Years 5 and 6
ANZ futureFERNS 6 aside netball.
Run over terms 2 and 3 at Newlands College (outdoors) Saturday mornings.
Players are registered as Ngaio School teams of 6-9 players (games are 6 a side).
They play 6v6 games on a full court, shooting into 2.60m goals with size four balls.
Full Ngaio Sports uniform must be worn. Practices are organised by each coach.
