Welcome to Ngaio School
Welcome to Ngaio School, a primary school with around 320 children from year 0 through to year 6 in the heart of Ngaio, Wellington.
Ngaio School is a vibrant learning community in the fullest sense. We encourage our learners to demonstrate our ROCKET values – to be resilient, open-minded, curious, kind, empathetic and trustworthy in all that they do.
Principal's Welcome
Nau mai, haere mai – Welcome to Ngaio School
Tēnā koutou katoa. It is a genuine privilege to lead Ngaio School, a place where history and modern learning meet under the shelter of our beautiful Wellington hills.
Since 1908, Ngaio School has been a cornerstone of this community. Our mission is simple but ambitious: we want our tamariki to ‘Soar to New Heights.’ To achieve this, we provide high-quality teaching and learning programmes that spark curiosity and creativity. While we take great pride in our students’ academic progress, we are equally committed to seeing them flourish culturally, physically, and socially.
We use our ROCKET values—Resilient, Open-minded, Curious, Kind, Empathetic, and Trustworthy—as a shared language for our staff and tamariki. Rather than just being rules, these values represent how we grow together. These values sit alongside our Graduate Profile, which outlines the skills and attributes we aim for every student to possess by the time they leave us in Year 6. Our goal is to ensure every Ngaio graduate is a confident, connected, and lifelong learner, ready to take on the world.
Our school logo features the whiri (plait), representing the bond between our pupils, staff, and whānau. We believe education is a true partnership, and our “open door” policy means we always welcome your input and engagement. Together, we create a strong, supportive environment where every child is seen as an individual with unique strengths.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our vibrant school life. If you have any questions or would like to visit us in person, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Phil McIntosh
