Ngaio School

Our Place to Learn

Ngaio School values different cultures. We have a number of learning programmes and events designed to acknowledge and celebrate the different Cultures at Ngaio School and in our wider community.

At Ngaio School we hold regular Whanau meetings. These provide a chance for families and staff to connect and collaborate with one another to provide experiences for our tamariki and discuss ways we can work together to best meet our learners needs and build mana in our learners

At Ngaio School we celebrate Maori language week. This provides the children with a chance to  share and explore Maori culture in depth.

In addition to Maori Language Week, we are very fortunate to have Matua Alwyn working across the school to deliver a comprehensive waiata and te reo programme.
Our Whanau group has had a strong involvement in embedding Te reo me tikanga Maori across the school and play a key role in our whakatau and our kapa haka group. You can see some of these initiatives in action in our school on the Te Reo and Waiata page.
Every Year Ngaio School celebrates International Week. We celebrate different cultures during the annual International Week in September. This is a chance for the children to explore different cultures through food, costumes and a range of cultural performances.  We invite parents and experts from the community to share their cultural knowledge and experiences with us. The children are always excited to explore Maori and Samoan culture during these weeks.
